I received certification as a Registered Nurse at the Jersey College Nursing School Teterboro. The college is located in New Jersey, and training takes two years of private learning. The college came up in 2003 through the efforts of the Karzhevsky family who intended to generate highly skilled nurses who would then work at the Loving Care Agency in New York which they also owned. The Agency started by employing professionals in different areas of specialization including licensed practical nurses and registered nurses who also provided pediatric services to medically fragile children. One year after the foundation of the Jersey College Nursing School, it was approved to offer a Practical Nursing Program by the Board of Nursing in New Jersey, and this prompted the expansion of the facility with regards to the staff, administrators and the student body (Karas and Mease, 2013). In 2007, the facility was approved by the United States Department of Education and opened another branch at Tampa, Florida. Two years later, a third campus came up in Ewing and a fourth one, the Jacksonville was opened in 2010 after the approval or the Professional Nursing Program. Two years later, the organization opened its fifth branch, the Fort Lauderdale campus. Further approval to offer an associate degree in Registered Nursing prompted the school to change its name to Jersey College to fit the changes that had been introduced.
The organization collaborated with various entities to provide quality training to the students. The first step was the physical expansion of the premises to accommodate more students and learning resources. The Tampa College in Florida expanded in 2014 by 40,000 feet that allowed for the development of observation rooms, computer labs, a library, classrooms and a cafeteria where the students feed. The facility also has simulation labs which help students to practice those skills that are lacking in the hospital setting. Herron, Powers, Mullen, and Burkhart (2018) claim that simulation learning provides students with enhanced practical skills that they need to become qualified nurses. Recently, Jersey College established a new campus inside the Largo Medical Center in Florida, with the collaboration of the Hospital Corporation of America. The campus manages track of the Nurse Residency Program (Vician, 2014). Overall, Jersey College offers two programs. The Practical Nursing program equips learners with the theoretical foundations of practical nursing and prepares them for future careers in Licensed Practical Nursing. On the other side, the Professional Nursing Program covers advanced areas in the medical field such as medical-surgical, pediatric, maternal, geriatrics and mental health issues. Licensed Practical Nursing consists of the generic track which targets students in their initial stages of the nursing education, the bridge track that allows Licensed Practical Nurses to advance their studies, and the Residency track which is based in a hospital setting. The organization’s continuous expansion provides an opportunity for more students to receive specialized training in nursing so that they can meet the growing health needs of the population. I can’t wait to see them opening more campuses even outside the United States.
