To bring forth change is to interrupt complacency, normalcy and venture into the unknown. When the day to day normal is interrupted this usually bring forth resistance. A few years ago, my organization decided to implement a new Electronic Health Record (EHR), many of the older nurses decided to retire early (the thought of no more paper charting was too overwhelming for them). Those who were unable to retire argued and complained endlessly of the change. In my experience, resistance to change is seen in the young and old alike. According to; (Wentzel, 2019), when faced with mandated change, people naturally experience tension to reduce opposing beliefs or feelings. Resistance to change ties directly to cognitive consistency and the need to ensure beliefs match behavior.

Topic 3 Role of Leadership in driving change in an organization – Example below

When implementing a change within an organization no matter how large or small, having the right experienced leader or lacking such can determine the success or failure of that implementation. Leadership is thinking outside the box, having the right ream members in place, taking ownership, listening, effective communication and not afraid of failure. Leadership is seen as an attribute and a process according to (Ionescu, & Bolcas). As an attribute, leadership brings together a set of characteristics – behavioral patterns and personality traits – that make the members of an organization more efficient and achieve the expected goals. As a process, leadership is based on different sources of power and a set of specific skills, being an action oriented to influence the members of a group to meet common goals.
